CERABITE® Shock Wave Decoring

Removal of ceramic cores from stainless-steel castings and cleaning of engine castings with underwater shock waves.

KLEIN Stoßwellentechnik GmbH develops and produces systems for generating extremely high-performance shock waves under water. The CERABITE® process is already used in numerous applications for removing solid ceramic cores from highly complex interiors of stainless-steel castings.

Energy stored in capacitors is discharged abruptly to an underwater electrode. This creates a high-energy, high-frequency shock wave which spreads in the water. The shock wave is reflected inside the cavities of the castings and destroys all core residues, removes tenacious coating particles and sand grains, and breaks up jammed metal chips.

Highly complex geometries and high demands on casting quality make removing cores reliably and residue-free increasingly challenging. Shock wave technology is a proven, process-safe technique: thanks to the very good reflection of the pressure waves inside the channels, even distant, hardly accessible areas are cleaned without any problems.
